How to treat insomnia with folk remedies

Nature transfers its life-giving forces to man through the flora. A good knowledge of the nutritional and health benefits of fruits, vegetables and aromatic herbs allows us to successfully use them in the treatment of insomnia. They are suppliers of many vitamins and biologically active substances that are beneficial for our body.

In folk medicine, wild plants are also successfully used to treat insomnia, stress and depression. A special group of plants for the treatment of sleep disorders is spicy herbs. Thyme, marjoram, tarragon, mint and wormwood significantly improve sleep and contribute to the successful treatment of many diseases. Plant foods and herbs can be used in even some of the most demanding diets to improve health.

Here is some of them:

Hawthorn

Hawthorn is taken in the treatment of nervous diseases, insomnia and cardiac neuroses. Hawthorn fruit is added to tea as a means of improving heart activity and blood circulation, as well as a blood pressure regulator. A decoction of 20 g is prepared from the fruits for one glass of water or flowers 3 tbsp. spoons for 3 cups of boiling water. Drink one glass 3 times a day half an hour before meals.

Plum

Plums, especially dried prunes, have a healing effect on heart diseases. It is recommended to take 10-15 plums before bedtime.

Pumpkin

Pumpkin is useful in the treatment of heart disease, kidney disease, as well as hypertension, obesity and cholecystitis. For insomnia or restless sleep, you can drink a glass of pumpkin juice mixed with honey at night.

Oregano

Oregano flowers contain tannins and essential oil. Basically, oregano is used for various female diseases, hence the other name of this herb – “mother’s grass”. Oregano has a calming effect on the central nervous system, therefore, for insomnia, oregano tincture is also effectively recommended. The herb is harvested during the flowering period. Flowers and leaves are used for brewing, coarse stems are removed.

Mint

Peppermint contains peppermint oil, which is composed of metol, acids, flavonoids and carotene. Mint infusion has an antispasmodic effect, causes expansion of the coronary vessels. Mint improves general condition and has a sedative effect. Two tablespoons of crushed mint leaves are poured with two glasses of boiling water and infused for 20 minutes. You can also add a few mint leaves to regular tea.

Dill

Dill preparations are indicated in the treatment of hypertension, headaches and insomnia. Two teaspoons of the mixture are brewed with a glass of boiling water and taken warm in the morning and evening. Another recipe: boil dill seeds for 15-20 minutes over low heat in 0.5 liter of red wine. Cover, leave for 1 hour, strain and squeeze. Take 50-60 gr. Before bed.   

Hemp

Hemp infusion helps with chronic insomnia. Hemp seeds must be crushed very finely and sieved. Then pour one glass of boiling water. Cover, leave for 30-40 minutes. It is taken warm before bedtime according to the following scheme: first half a glass two hours before bedtime. Then after an hour, drink the remainder. It is accepted for two weeks.

Water lilies

With a disorder of the nervous system and sleep disturbance, an infusion of water lily seeds also helps. One tablespoon of ripe seeds is ground into powder and brewed with a glass of boiling water. Insist for 20 minutes and drink in two doses on an empty stomach. 

Lavender

Brush whiskey with lavender oil before going to bed or pour 3-5 drops of lavender oil on a piece of sugar and keep in your mouth before going to bed. Provides good sleep.     

Rosehip

Possesses not only good taste, but also many medicinal qualities. Rosehip drink is good for fatigue, improves sleep and relieves stress. Ideal with honey and bitter wormwood.

Chamomile

A mixture of chamomile with other medicinal herbs is used to prepare warm baths.

Nervous tension can be relieved by using a tincture made from medicinal herbs: dill, chamomile, motherwort, sage, kidney tea and celery. For insomnia, it is also helpful to take herbal tea balsam and honey.
