Identified another reason for the decrease in potency

Obstructive sleep apnea syndrome is considered as one of the reasons for the decrease in potency.

In a study of 50 men with complaints of sleep disorders, it was determined that 30 of them suffered from sleep apnea attacks associated with daytime sleepiness and impaired concentration. In 24 people (80%), there was also a decrease in potency. Moreover, the degree of potency reduction was directly proportional to the severity of the manifestation of obstructive sleep apnea syndrome.

Scientists were able to establish that with sleep apnea, there are several factors that lead to a decrease in potency. These are obesity, decreased testosterone production and a psychological factor.

Most people with obstructive sleep apnea are overweight. Obesity entails a change in the hormonal background – the level of sex hormones decreases, which is manifested in a decrease in sexual desire and a decrease in potency.

In patients with obstructive sleep apnea , oxygen starvation caused by frequent respiratory arrest affects the level of testosterone in the blood – it is lowered . In severe forms of sleep apnea, there are up to 400-500 respiratory arrests per night with micro -awakenings of the brain. In such a situation, deep sleep disappears, during which testosterone is released in the body.

The third reason for potency disorders is related to the psychological component. In persons with respiratory disorders, due to a prolonged deterioration in the quality of sleep, fatigue, weakness and excessive daytime sleepiness occur. Chronic fatigue affects the sexual sphere of a man – sexual desire and potency decrease.

If a snoring person has a decrease in potency, it is necessary to examine him for obstructive sleep apnea syndrome. When detecting sleep apnea, it is advisable to eliminate breathing disorders during sleep.

Treatment of sleep apnea in the presence of anatomical defects of the nasopharynx and soft palate consists in performing an operation. In other cases, for moderate to severe forms of sleep apnea, it is recommended to use CPAP therapy, which will restore sleep and testosterone levels. It has been proven that the younger the patient, the shorter the recovery time of potency – from 1 to 3 weeks. In older patients with severe sleep apnea, improvement occurs after 1.5 months. In all patients, during the use of CPAP therapy, the general state of health improves significantly, and against its background, the effectiveness of any other treatment for erectile dysfunction increases. For CPAP therapy, devices with automatic adjustment of therapeutic pressure are successfully used. An example is the apparatus Prisma 20A and its predecessor Somnobalance E from Weinmann – Loewenstein (Germany).

At present, improved Prisma Line CPAP devices from the new line of Weinmann – Loewenstein (Germany) have been developed. Their use allows the most effective and comfortable treatment of the entire spectrum of respiratory disorders in patients with obstructive sleep apnea syndrome.
