Patients suffering from snoring and diseases of the nasopharynx are at risk of developing sleep apnea. Obstructive sleep apnea syndrome is a dangerous disease that is manifested primarily by nighttime snoring and occasional pauses in breathing during sleep . The danger of the disease lies in the fact that it negatively affects all systems and organs, accelerates the development of cardiovascular and other diseases, threatens with a high risk of heart attack, stroke and sudden death.
In this regard, patients who snore need prevention of sleep apnea. First of all, it consists in the treatment of snoring and diseases of the nasopharynx (tonsillitis, chronic runny nose, narrowing of the nasal passages, deviated septum).
The progression of snoring is often associated with excess weight, low mobility and bad habits, so you need to think about lifestyle changes :
- to give up smoking;
- refusal to use alcohol and sleeping pills;
- weight loss;
- implementation of recommendations for positional treatment of snoring – do not sleep on your back or stomach, use special contour pillows;
- doing exercises to relieve snoring and prevent sleep apnea; these exercises strengthen the muscles of the larynx, soft palate, tongue and lower jaw;
- the use of intraoral devices that push the lower jaw forward; they keep the upper airways open and are best for mild to moderate sleep apnea.
For sleep apnea, breathing exercises from yoga
are often used: full yogi breathing, Nadi Shodhana , Ujjayi . Exercises are
performed before going to bed, in the amount of at least five cycles of
inhalation-exhalation.
